Interpretation of Rodrigo Sobarzo’s performance »Mining«
by Stine Frandsen and Sebastian Kahr.
Performer: Sebastian Kahr
Mentor: Rodrigo Sobarzo
As part of a school project at the Danish National School of Performing Arts Stine Frandsen and Sebastian Kahr were asked to make an interpretation of Rodrigo Sobarzo’s performance »Mining«. Guided by Rodrigo Sobarzo this assignment turned into a study of what it means to acquire and fill out an already existing movement material. Not as students copying the original shape of a master or as dancer’s imitating the steps of a choreographer. Instead the work started with gaining insight to the thoughts and corporeal experiences associated to creating “Mining”. For this occasion the material has been reworked into a 20 minutes solo performed by Sebastian Kahr.
Sebastian Kahr is currently studying Contemporary Dance and Choreography at the Danish National School of Performing Arts. Lately he has been thinking about cultivating the infinitely unfamiliar body. He is interested in filling out movement with knowledge and experience, seeking to get familiar with a body that thinks. What happens when there is no separation between the seen and the seeing? How can bodies transform inside the theater? Thinking of performance as a shared experience, he is looking for dances that can connect us differently to our way of being. Dances that explode. Dances that allow us to be together.
